Frequently Asked Questions

What age can children start from?

We have classes available from walking - 15 years. If you would like to discuss which class would be most suitable for your child, contact us.

My child is nervous about starting dance classes, will I be able to stay?

Absolutely! In fact, we encourage parents to stay and watch their child's first class, particularly in our younger classes. We believe it is important for you to see what we do in class, our teaching style, and how your child gets on firsthand. That way, in the future you can trust you are sending your child to a dance school that is the right fit for you and your child.

How much do classes cost and how do I pay?

Should your child enjoy their first class and wish to sign up, our prices are as follows. Fees are due on a monthly basis. We take payment automatically on the 1st of each month for upcoming lessons within that month.

45 minute = £5.50

60 minute = £6.00

90 minute = £8.00

Should you wish to stop classes at any point, just let us know before the 1st of the next month and any future payments will be canceled.

Are there any extra costs involved?

At Studio J we do our best to keep costs as low as possible. Below are some of the additional costs that may be involved when you join us:

- Our uniform is not mandatory, we are happy for your child to wear whatever they are comfortable in. If you would like to know more about our uniform, see here.

- Once a year we hold our own in-class presentations where we invite you to come along and see what we've been learning in class. Each child receives a medal. There is an additional charge of approximately £5 for all who choose to take part.

- Every other year we hold a dance show. If your child would like to be involved, there is a minimum £30 show fee which covers your costume hire, a t.shirt you get to keep, all extra rehearsals, and 1x show programme as a keepsake. Tickets will be on sale for approximately £15 each.

What will my child need to wear?

Your child can wear anything they are comfortable in for their trial class. Generally, any t.shirt, leggings/joggers with trainers is absolutely fine. When you're ready, we do stock our own uniform that can be purchased in class but there is no rush to buy this. We are not strict when it comes to uniform and just want our students to feel comfortable. To view our price list click here.

If you are attending one of our taps classes, we do have tap shoes that you may borrow for this section of the class so your child can join us in making lots of noise with our feet!

My child has never done any kind of dance before, will your classes be suitable?

Yes! Most of our classes are suitable for beginners or those with some experience. We are not a competitive school and strive to make our classes fun and enjoyable for all abilities. We focus on building confidence and friendships in our classes! The best way to find out if we're the right school for your child? Book your child a trial class and see for yourselves!

Do you offer trial classes?

We do indeed! You can book a trial class online here with no obligation to sign up. Not sure which style your child would like to do? Contact us and we'll help you find the perfect fit.

Do you offer exams?

This depends on which class you are attending. Our street beats, dance flow, jazz, stage stars, and inter combo classes only do free work and can be involved in our own in-class presentations once a year and our bi-annual show.

Our Tutus & Taps, Rising Start and Junior Core classes are given the opportunity to take exams with the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association) in ballet, tap, and theatre craft.

Our acro classes work through the levels of the Acrobatic Arts program. Our students are able to progress safely at their own pace and receive a certificate for each level passed.

Will my child be able to take part in any shows/performances?

Certainly! All our students are invited to take part in our yearly in-class presentations, our bi-annual show, and occasionally we get invited to perform at summer fayres and other events too.
